Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been banned for three matches by the FA following a Regulatory Commission hearing on Tuesday. Drogba allegedly threw a coin into the Burnley section of the crowd during the Blues’ Carling Cup game last week. The Ivory Coast striker had apologised for his behaviour after the incident, but a ban was always on the cards given that Jamie Carragher had also got a three match ban for a similar offence six years ago.
The ban comes into effect immediately and means that Drogba misses Chelsea’s games against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers.
Drogba scored in the game, but Chelsea lost to Burnley on penalties.
The Metropolitan police are also looking into the matter. The police did not take any action against Carragher six years ago, but the defender was also fined by Liverpool.
