French midfielder Patrick Vieira has played down links of him moving to Sunderland in the winter transfer window, saying that he is happy at Internazionale.
It was revealed that Sunderland boss Roy Keane was interested in signing Vieira in the summer, but the former Arsenal midfielder’s wages were too high for any chance of the deal to go through.
But with Sunderland being boosted by American Ellis Short’s bank balance, rumours are that Keane could again make a move for his former arch rival in January. Keane himself has said that it is unlikely that Vieira would leave the club for the Black Cats, given that there would not be a shortage of top clubs vying for his signature should he become available.
Sunderland drew with Arsenal 1-1 at the Stadium of Light at the weekend. Grant Leadbitter’s late strike seemed to guarantee them victory, but they were denied by a last gasp header from Cesc Fabregas.
