Jurgen Klinsmann had to do with a draw in his Bundesliga debut as FC Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw by Hamburger SV. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski gave the defending champions a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Paolo Guerrero and Pietr Trochowski restored parity for Hamburg as both teams walked away with a share of the spoils.
Schweinsteiger gave Bayern the lead in the 12th minute, and the German international was in action four minutes later as he was fouled by Mathijsen. Podolski converted the resulting spot kick. Paolo Guerrero pulled one back for Hamburg in the 25th minute by heading home Trochowski’s cross, and like Schweinsteiger, the Peruvian contributed to his team’s second goal, by getting HSV a penalty which was duly sent home by Trochowski. Both Guerrero and Trochowski are Allianz Arena rejects.
In other Bayern news, their first non German skipper Mark Van Bommel has been called up to the Dutch squad to play Russia in a friendly. Van Bommel, who was not in the good books of Marco Van Basten, was not part of the Oranje squad that reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2008 before being eliminated by Guus Hiddink’s men.
