Football’s world governing body FIFA has allowed the Swiss Football Federation to register Essam El Hadary as a FC Sion player. The Egyptian goalkeeper, 35, has been the subject of a tug of war between Al Ahly and the Swiss club. The FIFA ruling however does not stop the Egyptian giants from taking legal action against the player or the club.
El Hadary played for Al Ahly for more than a decade, and was instrumental in Egypt’s AFCON victories in 2006 and 2008. Al Ahly are reported to be getting $ 400,000 for the player, with the Swiss club buying out the remainder of his contract. This is probably in line with Article 17.
El Hadary’s departure leaves Al Ahly with only two keepers for the CAF Champions League- Amir Abdul Hamid and Ahmed Adel Abd El-Monaem.
Al Ahly are to meet Platinum Stars in the next round of the CAF Champions League.
