Chelsea have signed Serbia and Montenegro defender Branislav Ivanovic from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow for an undisclosed fee. Ivanovic has been given a work permit, and has also passed a medical and finalised personal terms. According to reports, he can play anywhere in defence, but used to play as rightback for Lokomotiv.
Manchester United were also wanting to sign Ivanovic, who now joins fellow national defender Nemanja Vidic in the Premiership.

Ivanovic is Chelsea manager Avram Grant’s second signing in the January transfer window, the first being Nicolas Anelka from Bolton Wanderers for 15 million.
