Middlesbrough striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu has moved to Everton for a fee of 11.25 million pounds. The 24 year old Nigerian international is Everton’s new club record signing. He joins Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines in the list of high profile footballers moving to Goodison Park this summer.
The Toffees are the third Premiership team that Yakubu will play for- he has previously donned Portsmouth and Middlesbrough colours. Yakubu is immensely powerful and has scored 54 Premiership goals in 140 games. He had joined Boro from Fratton Park in 2005 for 7.5 million pounds. Yakubu’s original application for a work permit was turned down, but Everton successfully re appealed.
Is this a good move ? Yakubu is a good striker, no doubt about that. The goals that he has scored is proof of that fact. He does tend to be a bit lazy though, and we could have a situation where Andy Johnson does all the hard work, and Yakubu simply puts the ball into the net. The two James- Vaughan and Mcfadden are the other two players who can play as forwards at Everton.
