Run, run, run

Wayne Rooney will miss England’s September Euro qualifiers because of a hairline fracture of his left foot. Mark Delaney has called it a day because of a recurring knee injury. Soccer, like all other sports, places great emphasis on fitness. With the ever increasing number of games and increasing levels of competitiveness, it is necessary that you keep yourself supple and fit.

We all focus on health and fitness in some way or the other. Most of us exercise and jog every morning in an aim to keep our body in shape. And with an increased amount of discussions on the subject of running and marathons, it is but obvious that you will be bitten by the running bug, if you haven’t been already.

You need to select the correct running shoes. What might be a perfect shoe for you might not necessarily be the same for some one else. People have different kind of feet- some might have normal feet, some might have flat feet, some feet might be of the high arched kind. Your shoe also depends on the surface where you run everyday. Your current body weight also plays a part. Consult a professional fitness trainer before starting off.

If you do not take precautions, you might end up suffering from running injuries. Unfortunately, many of us do not listen to instructions and end up self destructing. Most injuries will occur in the lower part of the body- the knee, ankle, lower back, foot etc. That is but natural, given the fact that it is the lower part of the body that comes under pressure when you decide to run.

Remember that running isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. You need patience as your stamina will increase over a period of time and not in a day. Most importantly, you need to be able to enjoy running. It won’t be easy, but the results will speak for themselves after a period of time. Who knows, you might be the next Paula Radcliffe or Paul Tergat ? 🙂
