Here are the results from the Euro 2008 qualifiers held on the 28th of March

Group A :

Serbia 1-1 Portugal ( Bosko Jankovic/ Tiago)

Lyon medio Tiago’s first international goal, which came in a rather unexpected manner, gave Portugal the lead before Jankovic levelled things 8 minutes from the interval.

Poland 1-0 Armenia ( Maclej Zurawski)

Fifth consecutive Euro win for the Poles, who lead the group by 5 points

 Azerbaijan 1-0 Finland (Emin Imameliev)

Upset of the day in the group, you’d have to say. First win in qualifying for Euro 2008 for the hosts.

Group B:

Italy 2-0 Scotland ( Luca Toni*2)

Italy had won all five meetings at home against the Scots before this one, and the Fiorentina forward ensured that the record wouldn’t be broken.

Georgia 3-1 Faroe Islands ( David Siradze, Alexander Iashvili*2/ Christian Jacobsen)

2 first half goals and a penalty towards the end were enough to seal victory for Klaus Topmoller’s Georgian side.

Ukraine 1-0 Lithuania ( Oleg Gusev)

Oleg Gusev’s header sees the Ukranians go to the  top of Group B, level on points  with Scotland and France.

 Group C:

Turkey 2-2 Norway ( Hamit Altintop*2/ Simon Brenne, Andresen)

Stunning comeback from Turkey after the Norwegians had taken a two goal lead in the first half. Match was played in Frankfurt. Both the Turkish goals came from freekicks in the second half, the second freekick in the 90th minute.

Hungary 2-0 Moldova ( Tamas Priskin/ Zoltan Gera)

Watford striker Priskin scored in the 9th minute in Budapest, and Baggies medio Gera added one in the 63rd minute.

Malta 0-1 Greece ( Angelos Basinas)

Greek skipper Angelos Basinas scores from the spot in the second half to hand the visitors three crucial points. Greece are now one point away from the leaders in Group C

Group D:

Wales 3-0 San Marino ( Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale, Jason Koumas)

Had it not been for the heroics of San Marino keeper Simoncini, the Welsh margin of victory could have been much greater. San Marino were expected to be beaten, and the Welsh did their job well.

Ireland 1-0 Slovakia ( Kevin Doyle)

Reading forward Doyle, playing as a replacement for the suspended Robbie Keane, scored an early header at Croke Park to give the Irish all three points.

Czech Republic 1-0 Cyprus ( Radoslav Kovac)

The Czechs return to the top of Group D, after losing to Germany 1-2 a few days back.

Group E:

Israel 4-0 Estonia ( Idan Tal, Ben Sahar*2, Roberto Colautti)

Ben Sahar’s first two goals for his national team and a goal apiece from Tal and Colautti seals a comfortable win for Israel.

Andorra 0-3 England ( Steven Gerrard*2, David Nugent)

Gerrard playing in the centre because of the injury to Lampard saved McClaren the blushes with a brace in the second half. Preston forward Nugent added the third- a goal on debut. Rooney’s yellow card ensures that the United striker is suspended for the next game. Maybe McClaren will now play Gerrard in the centre, rather than playing him on the right.
 Group F:

Spain 1-0 Iceland ( Andres Iniesta)

Spain will have Iniesta to thank for the valuable second half goal, which keeps them 4 points behind leaders Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland 2-1 Sweden ( David Healy*2/ Johan Elmander)

A brace from Leeds striker Healy sees Ireland come from behind to register a win against the Swedes and break their 100% record in Group F

Liechtenstein 1-0 Latvia ( Mario Frick)

The Latvians started well, but couldn’t find a way for the ball to go into the net, and Liechtenstein secured their second win in European football.

Group G:

Romania 3-0 Luxembourg ( Adrian Mutu, Cosmin Contra,Ciprian Marica)

Simple win for the Romanians against bottom of the table Luxembourg.

 Bulgaria 0-0 Albania

Missed chances for Bulgaria, and Albania manage to secure a draw in the only goalless game of the evening in Sofia.

Slovenia 0-1 Netherlands ( Van Bronckhorst)

A late goal from Giovanni Van Bronckhorst sees the Dutch take all three points and extend their lead to three points. The game also saw the debut of PSV player Ibrahim Affelay.
